Samsung Galaxy A9 spotted in AnTuTu, S620 chipset confirmed

he Samsung Galaxy A9 poked its head above water again, surfacing at the AnTuTu benchmark database. It casts another vote for a 5.5" 1080p screen, even though the naming scheme suggests the A9 should be better than the Galaxy A8 (5.7" 1080p).

It's definitely better in terms of chipset – the Snapdragon 620 has next-gen CPU cores and a next-gen GPU. The eight Cortex-72 cores should be much faster than the A53s used in current mid-range octa-cores. The Adreno 510 will also bring a much needed performance boost for 1080p gaming. And there's more RAM, 3GB.

There's 32GB of built-in storage, but AnTuTu failed to detect the camera resolution. The Samsung Galaxy A9 (SM-A9000) ran Android 5.1.1 Lollipop when the test was ran (which was most likely a pre-production version).

Nexus 5 photo leak points to a significant front-facing camera upgrade

In the very near future, Google will launch two new Nexus devices, including the new LG Nexus 5 and the Huawei Nexus 6. Many leaks have so far revealed details about the design, specs and features of the upcoming smartphones, and a new report gives us no information about the Nexus 5’s front-facing camera.
Dutch tech news site TechTastic found a selfie taken with a device identified as “bullhead” that’s made by LG. That particular internal codename is associated with the new Nexus 5, assuming past leaks are accurate about Google’s Nexus plans.

Found on Google+ on a profile belonging to a Google employee who works in the Quality Assurance department, the image reveals interesting details about the selfie camera. EXIF data says the photo has a 2592 x 1944 resolution, suggesting the front-facing shooter has a 5-megapixel sensor. Furthermore, the front camera also has an f/2.0 aperture according to the same data (see image below).

Assuming the data is correct, the Nexus 5 might bring Android fans the most significant upgrade to date when it comes to front cameras. Last year’s Nexus 6 handset had a 2-megapixel front-facing camera.

HTC A9 (Aero) gets photographed in the wild looking like an iPhone

The HTC Aero has been a constant presence among mobile world rumors for around two months. That said, we've never actually seen it before in live images.

Yet thanks to a leak originating in China, we can do just that now. What you see below is said to be the upcoming HTC flagship smartphone, the one that's supposed to turn the tide for the struggling Taiwanese company.

And it looks almost exactly like an iPhone. HTC probably only decided to put the camera dead center on the phone's back in order to (hopefully) avoid a lawsuit from Apple. Had it not done that, it would have been almost impossible to tell this handset and an iPhone apart, at least when looking at their backs.

On the front fascia, things are a bit different, and the prominent HTC logo helps too. The HTC Aero has been rumored to be marketed as the HTC A9 when it launches later this year.

We get no new leaked specs this time around, but previously outed ones include a QHD touchscreen with Gorilla Glass 4 and 2.5D curved edges, as well as a rear camera with f/1.9 aperture. The A9 should be launched in the US by AT&T and Sprint (at least). It's due to be announced in October and will hit the streets in November.

Mirror your Android device on your Mac or PC with Vysor

There are plenty of ways to mirror your smartphone onto your desktop, but none are as apparently easy (or snappy) as this one. Vysor has been cooked-up by AllCast creator Koush as a seamless way to mirror your Android device's display onto a Windows, Linux or Mac computer. All you'll need to do is connect one to the other over USB and install the Chrome plugin and in a few seconds, you should be able to control your phone with a keyboard and mouse. It may have been intended as a developer tool, but one keen-eyed Reddit user spotted the app while it was in private beta and shared it with the world.

As Koush himself points out in the second video below, one feature that hasn't been noticed was Vysor Share. With it, users can remotely control a smartphone from another machine through the internet, as long as both PCs have the app installed. That way, power users can actually push (or pull) updates to far-off phones using Android's Debug Bridge functionality. In the future, the developer is hoping to tweak this offering to enable developers to connect to multiple devices at a time. Right now, users are asked to just give it a try and offer your feedback, so have at it!

Lenovo Vibe X3 specs detailed by a GFXBench listing

It would seem that the February leak, which mentioned a total of 5 Lenovo smartphones, detailed most of the company's lineup for the year, instead of being an MWC teaser. The various models gradually crawled out of obscurity over the last few months, the most recent being the Vibe P1 Pro.

Well, next in line is the Lenovo Vibe X3, the midranger in the upper segment, set to replace the multi-layered Vibe X2. Intel on the matter comes from a GFXBench listing, which reveals plenty of key specs.

For starters the smartphone is reported to come with a 4.9-inch FullHD display - a notch below the 5 inches of the Vibe X2. The number may, however, be due to the benchmark's peculiarities, which for example cause the primary camera to be listed at 20MP, even though the 5,344 x 4,008 pixel resolution clearly amounts to 21.4MP. Now that we've mentioned it, the main shooter will be assisted by a dual-LED flash and it will be capable of shooting 2160p video too.

The smartphone will be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 808 with its dual Cortex-A57 performance cores clocked at 1.8GHz as opposed to the 2.0GHz maximum. The other four cores don't get a clock rate in the benchmark, and neither does the Adreno 418 GPU. The Vibe X3 will come with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, but a microSD is said to provide expansion now, a feature missing in the predecessor.

The Vibe X3 will come with the full set of connectivity features, including multi-band LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth v4.0, GPS with A-GPS, the lot. A fingerprint reader on the back completes the host of sensors, and early renders also revealed a set of stereo speakers on the front.

Naturally, the lone benchmark entry sheds no light on the date of announcement, let alone pricing and availability. However, an official launch at IFA in September is a rather safe bet.

Motorola Moto G 2015 In High Demand

The recently released third-generation Motorola Moto G 2015 has struck a chord with the buyers across globe. As it turns out, the demand for this wallet-friendly handset is significantly higher than the stocked supply.

In hindsight, Motorola hit a home run with the first-generation Moto G handset by offering impressive configurations with a nominal price tag. With the third-generation model, the icing on the cake is the availability of Moto Maker customization option for the midrange device. It is worth noting the Moto Maker option was made available only to the high-end Moto X smartphone. But introducing this aspect to the budget-friendly Moto G 2015 has turned out to be a good decision for Motorola. With Moto Maker’s help, potential buyers can tailor-make the handset’s external look by playing with different colors, textures and shell finish.

As reported by Phone Arena, the Moto G 2015’s 16GB model has been out of stock on the Moto Maker website for some time. However, the 8GB version is available for $179.99.

In addition to the Moto Maker site, the Moto G 2015 can also be purchased from retailers like Amazon and Best Buy. Here again, only the 8GB variant is available. The handset comes with a microSD card slot for further expansion, so insufficient native storage should not be a problem.

The device comes with a 5-inch display, fitted with 720p screen resolution. The smartphone is powered by a quad-core (Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 410) CPU and backed by a modest 1GB of RAM. The handset features a 13 megapixel rear-facing camera, in addition to a 5 MP front-facing selfie clicker. Other key features include a 2470 mAh battery, 4G LTE support, Android 5.1.1 Lollipop and IPX7 rating.

Meizu m2 note to go on sale in India next week

Specs-wise, the successor to the popular m1 note is powered by a Mediatek MT6753 SoC with octa-core 1.3 GHz Cortex-A53 CPU and Mali-T720MP3 GPU, and sports a 5.5 inch FullHD display. It comes with 2GB RAM and 16/32GB expandable memory options, and packs in a 3100 mAh battery.

In terms of camera, the handset features a 13MP rear unit and a 5MP front shooter. The model that'll go on sale in India will come with Android 5.1-based Flyme OS pre-installed.

Xiaomi all set to unveil MIUI 7 on August 13

With MIUI 6 nearing a year since its launch, Xiaomi is getting ready to unveil its upcoming OS, MIUI 7, later this month. The Chinese manufacturer teased the reveal date on Weibo, with a launch event scheduled in Beijing on August 13.

With Xiaomi announcing an iteration of MIUI 6 based on Android 5.0, it is possible MIUI 7 will be built atop Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. Not much else is known about the upcoming launch, with the latest rumors suggesting that the Mi 5 will be the first device to offer MIUI 7 out of the box. Given that the Mi 5 is expected to feature Snapdragon 820, it may be a while before we see the phone hitting retail availability.

We'll have all the details from Xiaomi's launch event next week.

Live image allegedly shows the Xperia Z5 and Z5 Compact

Earlier today Sony announced a press event for September 2 during IFA. It is there where the next flagship Xperia smartphone is expected to be unveiled. This is probably going to be called Xperia Z5, and it could be the first in the line to come with a fingerprint scanner.

The leaked image you can see below is purportedly depicting the Xperia Z5 to the right of an iPhone 5s, while the Z5 Compact is said to be to the left of Apple's handset.

As there's no way to confirm this picture's authenticity, a healthy dose of salt is required for this one. If it is the real deal, however, then we're looking at the first two Xperias with fingerprint sensors.

These will be embedded in the power buttons of Sony's new phones, which will be located on the right side of each handset - a placement which hasn't changed in years. This would also be the first time a company puts a fingerprint sensor on the side of a device. We've seen a lot of designs that embed it in the Home button below the screen, and others which go for a rear-placed sensor under the camera. And now this.

The Xperia Z5 seems to also have a dedicated camera shutter button, and the volume buttons are under the power button, all on the same right side. Additionally, the leaker of this image says the Z5 line will not feature the USB Type-C port.

Samsung Galaxy Note 5 Leaks Provoke Love And Hate

The latest leak around Samsung’s Galaxy Note 5 brings not only the specifications into the light, but information on the hardware choices that Samsung has made for its popular phablet product line. As always, assuming Taniyama-Shimura, the Note 5 is turning into a pivotal device for Samsung. The old way of doing the phablet has been depreciated, and in its place is a shiny and new approach.

Will that be enough to revitalise the line, or will the changes draw even more ire than those made to the main smartphone line when the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge were released?

The Exynos 7420 is acting as the processor, which matches the Galaxy S6, but with 4 GB of RAM the Note 5 will be making as much use of the 64-bit capability of Android Lollipop as possible.  It will ship with Android 5.1.1 out of the box (and I’ll be interested to see if the ‘Stagefright‘ exploit patch is included in this build of Android). Photography fans will be delighted with the 16-megapixel camera on the back, coupled with Samsung’s improved imaging processing software. The Galaxy S6 was a better camera than the iPhone 6, and I’ll be interested to see what the Note 5 can do compared to the iPhone 6S Plus and whatever updates Apple announces at its September event.

The Note 5 will also come with multiple native storage options, and that’s where the fun stops.

The multiple native storage options are being offered because the Note 5 is lacking support for extended storage through microSD cards. Whatever you can afford when you buy the handset will be the storage option that you have for the life of the device. That might be an acceptable trade-off to get a glass back panel and new styling for some, but not everyone has ready access to a desk-bound computer or the bandwidth and money to rely on cloud storage for large files.

The reason appears to be a drive to unify the styling of the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge across the full range of Samsung device. That makes sense from a marketing point of view if you want to sell your handsets based on looks alone, but the Note 5 has never been targeted as a fashion-conscious handset. It’s a workhorse handset, the mighty-engined pickup truck of Samsung’s portfolio.

And it doesn’t stop at the microSD card, the fuel tank has been locked tight as well.
The new design language used by Samsung seals the battery inside the chassis of the handset. There’s not going to be any access to allow users to quickly switch batteries. That certainly reduces the wear and tear, on connectors and covers, and likely brings down the cost of manufacturing by a fractional amount, but again it reduces the utility of the phablet.

Both the replaceable battery and microSD card support has been a key strength of Samsung’s mobile devices for many years. The removal of them in the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge raised a number of eyebrows. In some markets, notably in the US, the reaction was little more than ‘meh’, but other territories had a more visceral reaction. Many users in the BRIC countries prize the flexibility of switching out a battery or using microSD cards to share large files or simply boost memory in a more cost-effective way.

Samsung’s mobile division is in desperate need of a boost to revenue and profit. Taking away key features that have driven the adoption of its phablets does not bode well for the increased sales that recent quarterly results are hoping for.

Confirmation on these changes will only come when the Galaxy Note 5 (and the sister Galaxy S6 Edge Plus) are revealed at the Samsung Unpacked event on August 13th. Forbes’ Tech Team will be covering the news, and will bring you all the details as quickly as possible.

SONY XPERIA M4 AQUA MAKES A SPLASH, OFFERING SUPERIOR WATER RESISTANCE

Sony Mobile has released the Xperia M4 Aqua, said to be the most waterproof smartphone on the market.
The Xperia M4 Aqua is exclusive to Optus in Australia.

The phone comes with many firsts for Sony, the first Sony phone to have cap-less microUSB charging, an Octa-core 64-bit processor, Android’s latest operating system pre-installed, and as mentioned prior, the first phone to have a water resistant rating of IP68, the highest rating for a smartphone.

“Sony has a renewed focus on its mid-range tier of products,” said Sony’s John Featherstone in a media release, “The Xperia M4 Aqua is the perfect representation of this new wave of competitively priced handsets, with no compromises.”

“Offering many of the standout features made famous by our Xperia Z Series; superior imaging, up to two-day battery life… and waterproofing… – Xperia M4 Aqua brings a proposition and price that make this product a compelling offer in the mid-tier segment of the market.”

The phone features a 5-inch HD screen with IPS, an external camera that can take 13MP photos, an internal camera that can take 5MP photos, and a battery that can last for two days.

As mentioned prior, the Xperia M4 Aqua runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 615, an octa-core 64bit processor, and offers 4G/LTE for fast data.

Unlike the previously reported on Xperia E4, the Xperia M4 Aqua is a more high-end phone, boasting quite a bit of power for a higher price.

The Xperia M4 Aqua is available now exclusively to Optus through Optus’ $40 My Plan Plus plan, for a minimum total of $960 across 24-months.

8 Hidden Apple Watch Features You Need To Try Out

The Apple Watch has a number of pretty obvious features including the ability to make and receive phone calls, get directions, and monitor your movement. Beyond the obvious features; however, Apple has packed a number of smaller, interesting features into the Watch that are worth taking a look at. Here are a few of our favorite hidden Apple Watch features:

You Can Take Screenshots

You can take screenshots on the watch by pressing down the digital crown and side button on the watch simultaneously. Screenshot images will be saved to the camera roll on your iPhone whee you can access them later on.

Silence Your Watch By Covering it Up

When you’re done using your Watch, you can get the screen to power off by putting your hand over it for a few seconds. Hold you hand over the display until you feel the watch buzz to quickly put it into silent mode while you’re in a meeting or movie.

Apple Watch Can Find Your iPhone

If you’ve misplaced your iPhone, you can use your Apple Watch to track it down. Just swipe up on your Apple Watch display and then swipe to the control panel screen (the first one in the group) from there, tap on the iPhone icon to have your phone make a dinging noise. This feature still requires you to be in Bluetooth range of your phone, so it’s not going to do you any good if you left your phone at the bar down the street, but it can make it easy to pinpoint where your iPhone is in your living room and if it found its way under your sofa.

 Return To The Last App

If you need to return to the last app you were using, you don’t have to go through the Apple Watch’s menu to get there. Double pressing the digital crown will launch the last app you were in instantly.

You Can Pick Your Default Text Messages

You’re not stuck with the default text messages that came on the Apple Watch. You can  customize the built-in messages by going into the Apple Watch app on your iPhone, selecting Messages, and then “Default Replies.” From there you’ll be able to see all of the replies that are currently loaded onto your iPhone and swap out any you don’t like with something new.

Clear All Your Notifications at Once

Tired of clearing notifications on your Watch one at a time? You can clear all of the notifications you have on the device at once by pressing and holding on the notifications screen. A button will appear asking if you want to clear all of the pending notifications. Tap that button, and they’ll all disappear.

Talk to Siri

You don’t have to use a button in order to launch Siri. The digital assistant will also respond to you if you simply say “Hey Siri!” while the Watch face is activated.

Share Your Location Via Messages
Sharing your location is very simple on the Apple Watch through the Messages app. if you’re texting with someone on the Watch, press and hold on the screen to get a “Send Location” button. Tap that button to instantly send the person you’re chatting with a pin with your current coordinates.

How To Change Cortana’s Bing Search to Google in Windows 10 ? [Guide]

How To Change Cortana’s Bing Search to Google in Windows 10 ? [Guide]

Windows 10 was rolled out on July 29 and people have upgraded their PCs using the free upgrade offer. To make the upgrade process easy, Microsoft even released a tool to download Windows 10 instantly on Windows 7 and 8 PCs. Today, Microsoft said that 14 million people have installed Windows 10 on their PCs. Windows 10 comes with its very own digital assistant Cortana that searches your queries and acts according to your voice commands and gives useful results. But, just the way you can’t change the default search provider in Google Now and Siri, Cortana resists change and provides Bing search results.

Steps :

  1.     First Of All, Download Google Chrome (If you don`t have it already).
  2.     Set Google Chrome as your default web browser.
  3.     Now Go To This Page, and download an extension named ‘Bing2Google’, links given below.
  4.     Now click ‘Add To Chrome’ and enjoy it :)

Mozilla Gripes at Microsoft for Giving Edge an Edge

Mozilla CEO Chris Beard on Thursday published an open letter to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, calling on him to offer Windows 10 users an easier way to set their browser preferences.

Beard characterized the lack of choice in the Windows 10 experience as "very disturbing."

It appears to have been designed to override users' preferences for browser and apps, forcing users into an experience Microsoft wants them to have instead of one they want, he charged.

Users who upgrade to Microsoft's Windows 10 using the express setup will have the new Edge browser set as their default.

"We designed Windows 10 to provide a simple upgrade experience for users and a cohesive experience following the upgrade," said Microsoft spokesperson Carly Olsen.

"During the upgrade, consumers have the choice to set defaults, including for Web browsing," she told TechNewsWorld. "Following the upgrade, they can easily choose the default browser of their choice."

Windows 10 on Wednesday became available as a free download for Windows 7 and 8 customers, and so far has been downloaded more than 14 million times.

Microsoft Update

With every update of an operating system, users may find that some programs are not compatible. There have been many complaints over a variety of issues when previous versions of Windows were introduced.

Mozilla tried to work with Microsoft to ensure that users of Firefox wouldn't face unnecessary headaches, Beard claimed, but to no avail.

It can be argued the company is making much ado about nothing, though.

"Actually, it seems fairly easy [to keep Firefox], especially since upgrading to Windows 10 doesn't uninstall third party apps, including browsers," said Charles King, principal analyst at Pund-IT.

"That said, users who want to use Firefox, Chrome or others as their default browsers will have to go through a manual process similar to the one in Windows 8," he told TechNewsWorld.

Microsoft may have stumbled a bit, because it should make life easy for its core customers and address their needs, King added.

Still, "it's worth asking why Microsoft should risk adding complexity to the upgrade process for the sake of a small minority of users -- especially when there's little sign that the users themselves are complaining," he noted.

End of the Line for Explorer

This isn't a case of simply switching users to Internet Explorer, either. In addition to updating the operating system, Windows 10 is also notable in that it replaces the long-running Internet Explorer with Edge, a browser that Microsoft touts as lighter, faster and more modern than IE.

Some of its new features could help Microsoft regain some of the market share it once had with IE.

"Considering that 73 percent -- or roughly three quarters of Internet users -- are not using Internet Explorer, it is a minor inconvenience or an annoyance at most," said Roger Entner, principal analyst at Recon Analytics.

"Microsoft's position in the browser world is a mere shadow of its former dominance," he told TechNewsWorld.

"While it may be mildly annoying for users of other browsers, Firefox users have been able to switch before, so this shouldn't be that hard -- and unlike in the past, they don't have to download it," he added.

Nefarious Move

Microsoft deliberately limited consumer choice to give itself an unfair advantage, Beard suggested.

"People are seeing this is a nefarious move by Microsoft," said Entner, but it could be the other way around.

"It could give people a chance to experience Edge, but Mozilla doesn't even want them to try," he remarked.

"Previous versions of Windows have positioned IE as the default browser," noted King. "If you wanted something different, you had to make it happen yourself. Outside of slightly altering the process for choosing the default browser, Microsoft is doing what it's done for many years. I can't think of a better way to do it."

Replay of Windows 95 and IE

It was 20 years in the summer of 1995 that Microsoft took similar heat for using its newly launched Windows 95 as a way to gain market share with IE, which was closely tied to the OS. It is unlikely that Windows 10 and the Edge browser will trigger a replay. It's even possible that Microsoft won't enjoy any advantage.

"Those are the fears that Mozilla is trying to suggest -- that Microsoft will use Windows 10 as a way to gain an unfair advantage -- but the world has changed much in the past 20 years," Entner pointed out.

"Microsoft got its dominance because everyone went to the Internet for the first time and used Explorer, but today everyone has been to the Internet and now everyone has a preference," he added.

"The big difference is that 20 years ago, people went with the standard browser that was bundled," Entner recalled, because they had little exposure to alternatives.

Today, "that might be true in Africa," he speculated, "but not in the United States or Europe, or even in most of Asia."

Windows 10 review: The two-minute version

Microsoft’s latest iteration of its 30-year-old Windows operating system has arrived. And with it, a flood of positive, albeit prolix, reviews. So, here’s my two-minute version that touches on the most important changes and saves you from wading through 5,000 words.
Speed indeed: It’s fast. I noticed the speed within minutes of using Windows 10 for the first time. Everything is snappier. That includes opening and closing applications or using Microsoft’s new Edge browser. At the moment, I’m using what is arguably Hewlett-Packard’s most cutting-edge ultra-thin laptop, the recently released EliteBook Folio 1020. Because the 1020 is so thin, it uses a power-sipping Core M Intel chip, which struggled occasionally under heavy processing loads on Windows 8.1 But performance has improved noticeably on Windows 10. It not only runs faster but cooler. Note — I don’t know if everyone will see a noticeable performance improvement with Windows 10. My guess is that everyone’s mileage may vary depending on how optimized the hardware is for Windows 10.
Windows win-win: No more win-lose propositions. With Windows 8.1, you gained a new design but lost half the desktop to an (often) intrusive touch interface. The return of a monolithic, traditional windowed, mouse-and-keyboard interface is probably the single biggest change — and it’s a very striking difference the first hour or so you use Windows 10 (if you’re coming from 8.1). Subconsciously, I kept waiting for the old 8.1 touch interface to make an unwelcome appearance. But that will never happen unless you want it to.
And apps that you download from the Microsoft Store – which used to automatically launch the touch interface – now run as traditional windowed applications. I can’t overstate how welcome this is. For example, a couple of dictionary apps, which previously stymied my workflow because they ran in touch mode, now behave themselves very nicely as regular Windows applications.
Virtual desktops: For me, this also ranks as one of the top new features. Click on the “Task View” button on the task bar (which runs along the bottom of the Windows 10 screen) and it shows all of the currently running apps. But the killer is that you can drag apps into “desktops” that run as virtual stand-alone environments. For example, you can create “Desktop 1” as your work environment, running all of your productivity applications, then create “Desktop 2” as your fun space with games, videos etc. Or maybe parcel up different Desktops (1,2,3,4,5) based on different projects you’re working on. Virtual desktops is a great asset that unclutters and clarifies.
Getting personal with Cortana — or trying to: you can now use Microsoft’s digital “personal” assistant Cortana on a PC (already available on Windows Phone). Cortana is a good idea – but in practice it's erratic. For example, after I gave the verbal command to “send an email,” it often failed to recognize the recipient’s name (though it did work a few times -- recognizing the recipient, subject, and message text that I dictated). That said, Cortana is more suited to, and much better at, simple things like looking up a restaurant’s location or creating an entry on the Windows Calendar. One qualifier I should add: I am using a built-in laptop microphone. Microsoft says a higher-quality standalone mic may product better results.
Notifications and controls: Action Center is another great addition. Click on “Notifications” on the right-hand side of the Task Bar and up pops up a bunch of useful stuff. For example, you can see all of your most recent messaging and email, switch to tablet mode, get quick access to settings, and toggle items like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and airplane mode.
A Mac can’t touch that: Microsoft of course isn’t abandoning touch just making it less intrusive. Despite all of the criticism heaped on Microsoft (include me in that heap) about Windows 8.1’s dual personality, touch itself (free of the unwelcome Window 8.1 touch mode) is nice to have as an option. If you have a touch screen (which many new Windows laptops do these days), you can always use your fingers to, for example, navigate Web pages (which I prefer sometimes). And the new Microsoft Edge browser takes touch and stylus input a step further. Edge allows you to use a stylus to write directly on the browser or even scrawl notes with your finger – which can all be shared. I didn’t have time to try this extensively but it seemed to work pretty much as advertised.
And let me add that touch is a too-often under-emphasized advantage over the Mac. It has always struck me as odd that the Mac lacks touch. Especially when Apple is now selling a very-tablet-like laptop, the new 12-inch MacBook Retina. On the other hand, both the HP Elitebook 1020 I’m using now and the 2015 version of the Dell XPS 13, which I also use, have touch. It's great to have when you need it.
Office Mobile apps for Windows 10: Regrettably I haven't yet had time to use the new Office Mobile apps for Windows 10. Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote are built from the ground up for touch. This should be a boon for tablets like Microsoft's Surface 3 and Surface Pro 3.
Not everything needs to change: The photos app is still pretty much the same, which is fine with me as I’ve always thought this was well-designed and a joy to use. And the Control Panel is still there in all of its (mostly) static glory.
In summary, I'll repeat what I've said before (and echo other Windows 10 reviews), think of Windows 10 as just a better version of Windows 8.1. That makes the upgrade a no-brainer.
